Wacouta Commons Park

Neighborhoods: Downtown

Amount Needed: $700,000 (estimate)

Project Partners: Friends of Wacouta Commons Park, City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation

One of downtown Saint Paul’s “pocket parks” is Wacouta Commons Park, nestled between the Sibley Park Apartments and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. This block-length oasis stretches from Eighth to Ninth streets and from Sibley to Wacouta streets.  The volunteer Friends of Wacouta Commons Park has raised money to improve the playground and to plant 14 overstory trees.

This park is a vital “back yard” for 2,400 nearby families, including many immigrant families with young children renting affordable units nearby.

In November 2022, the outdated playground will be replaced!

The next step in the park plan is to turn the defunct fountain element into an innovative splash area to give families easy, free recreational water access in the urban core.
